Semrush is a great tool. It's also $139 a month for one person. Add two teammates and you're at $229 a month, or $2,748 a year, before any add-ons.
For a big agency, that's fine. For a 3-person marketing team or a small business, it's often the biggest line on the software bill. And many small teams use only a few of its reports.
We checked the pricing page of every tool in this guide on 20 October 2026. Then we priced the same small-team setup on each one: 3 users, up to 5 sites and about 500 tracked keywords. The yearly bill ranged from $708 to $2,844.
Here's which alternative fits which team, what each one really costs, and when you should stay with Semrush.
For most small teams, start with seotools.pro. Site audits, keyword research, rank tracking and backlink analysis are in one account, from $24 a month. Business, the plan built for teams and agencies, is $99 a month for 100 projects. Pick SE Ranking for agency-style reporting, Ahrefs if backlink research is your main job, and Mangools or Ubersuggest if you mostly need simple keyword research.
- Semrush's cheapest full plan is $139 a month. Each extra user starts at $45 a month.
- Seats change the math. A tool that looks cheap for 1 person can cost up to about 2.4 times as much for a team.
- For 3 users and 5 sites, the yearly bill ranged from $708 (Ubersuggest) to $2,844 (Moz Pro). seotools.pro Business came to $1,188, the lowest of the full suites with a site audit.
- Adobe completed its purchase of Semrush on 28 April 2026. Semrush says existing contracts are unchanged for now.
- Stay with Semrush if you use its PPC, social and market research tools every week. No cheaper suite replaces all of them.

Why Small Teams Look for a Semrush Alternative
It's rarely about quality. Semrush has some of the biggest keyword and backlink databases in the industry. The reasons people leave are more practical.
1. The price climbs with every person
Semrush's SEO plan is $139 a month for one login. Each extra user starts at $45 a month. A 3-person team pays $229 a month before any add-ons.
Price comes up again and again in public reviews. On Capterra, a marketing manager at a small education business wrote:
"The price point is hard. We are small businesses and this would be fantastic for small businesses but the pricing tiers are too expensive."
â Kalin T., Marketing Manager, Capterra review, April 20252. You pay for tools you don't open
Semrush is a full marketing suite. It covers SEO, ads, social media, content and market research. Many small teams mainly need 4 jobs: site audit, keyword research, rank tracking and backlinks.
A copywriter who cancelled put it simply:
"âĶI cancelled my subscription, a bit too expensive and I didn't need all that pack of tools."
â Jeff K., Copywriter, Capterra review, July 20253. It takes time to learn
More tools means more menus. A graphic designer on Capterra said the interface "can sometimes feel overwhelming and has a steep learning curve for beginners." If only one person on your team knows where everything is, that's a risk.
4. A new owner and new plans
Adobe completed its purchase of Semrush on 28 April 2026. Semrush's customer FAQ says there are no changes to existing contracts "at this time".
Separately, Semrush has reworked its plans. The old Pro, Guru and Business tiers are no longer on the pricing page. Today's page shows SEO ($139), Starter ($199), Pro+ ($299) and a custom Advanced plan. If you're up for renewal, it's a good moment to compare.
What people actually search for
We ran "semrush alternatives" through our own Keyword Research tool. The pattern is clear: people want something cheaper. In the US, each of the "free" versions of the search ("semrush free alternatives", "free semrush alternatives" and similar) gets about 480 searches a month. "Best semrush alternatives" gets about 260.
So this guide starts with the cheapest way to get the jobs done, and covers the free options too.
How We Compared the Tools
Most "Semrush alternatives" lists compare the price for one person. Small teams need to price the whole team. So we used one setup for every tool:
- 3 users who each need their own login
- Up to 5 sites: your own site plus a few clients, brands or country sites
- About 500 tracked keywords in total
- Monthly billing, list prices in US dollars, no promo codes
Then we added the extra seats, projects or keywords each tool needs to cover that setup. All prices and limits come from each vendor's own pricing page on 20 October 2026. Where a page didn't show a limit, we say so.
Paying yearly is cheaper on every tool here, by about 16% to 45%. We used monthly prices so the comparison is fair.
The 7 Best Semrush Alternatives for Small Teams
1. seotools.pro: the best all-in-one value
This is our tool, so read this section knowing that. We built seotools.pro for exactly this reader: small teams that need the core SEO jobs done without paying for a full marketing suite.
Price: Lite $24, Pro $49, Business $99 a month. Billed yearly, that's $20, $41 and $83 a month (2 months free). Each plan has a 7-day free trial.
What you get: Pro has 30 projects, a 100,000-keyword allowance, a full site audit, the Rank Tracker, the Backlink Analyzer, 50 Content Optimizer documents a month, and CRM and project management. Business, the plan for teams and agencies, raises that to 100 projects and 400,000 keywords, and adds local rank tracking, backlink gap analysis and API access.
3-person team: $99 a month on Business, or $1,188 a year. That's less than half of Semrush for the same team.
Before you pay anything, you can try the main tools free. Each gives 3 checks a day without an account, and more with a free account. Here's what that looks like.
Free website audit. Type a domain and get a health score, the issues to fix first, plus the site's traffic, Domain Trust and backlinks. We ran mangools.com, one of the tools in this list:
Organic Traffic Checker. See how much Google traffic any site gets, from which countries, and what it's worth. Here's semrush.com itself:
Backlink Analyzer. See any site's backlinks, referring domains, the dofollow split and its strongest links. Here's SE Ranking, another tool on this list:
- Lowest monthly entry price in this comparison: $24
- The lowest team price of the full suites with a site audit
- Audits, keywords, ranks and backlinks in one account
- Free tools work on any site, no sign-up
- CRM and project management included
- Done-for-you SEO available if you'd rather not do it yourself
- No PPC, social media or market research tools like Semrush
- Newer brand, so fewer tutorials and third-party courses
- Local rank tracking and API access need Business ($99)
Who it's for: small businesses, in-house teams of 1 to 5 people and small agencies whose work is mostly SEO. If you'd rather hand the work off, our team also offers SEO and GEO services.

- Plans from $24 a month
- 30 projects on Pro, 100 on Business
- Rank Tracker and Backlink Analyzer on Pro
- 2 months free on yearly billing
2. SE Ranking: the closest match for agencies
SE Ranking feels the most like Semrush. It has rank tracking, site audits, keyword and competitor research, backlinks and client reports in one place. It's a popular pick for small agencies.
Price: Core is $129 a month ($103.20 billed yearly). It includes 10 projects, 2,000 keywords tracked daily, 250,000 audited pages a month and 1 seat. Extra seats are listed "from $16".
3-person team: from about $161 a month, or $1,932 a year. Check the seat price at checkout, since some add-on prices on the page are yearly rates.
Watch out for: paid add-ons. AI search tracking is $89 a month, the Agency Pack (white-label reports) is $69 a month and API access is $45 a month, both on yearly billing.
Free trial: 14 days, no card needed.
Pick it if you report to clients every month and want daily rank tracking for a lot of keywords.
3. Ahrefs: the strongest backlink data
Ahrefs is the main Semrush rival. Its backlink tools are its biggest strength. If links are central to your strategy, it's the one most SEOs compare against.
Price: Lite is $129 a month ($107.50 billed yearly). It includes 750 tracked keywords, 1,000 credits per user and 1 user. You can add up to 2 more users at $40 a month each. There's also a $29 Starter plan for light research.
3-person team: $209 a month, or $2,508 a year. That's only $240 a year less than Semrush.
Watch out for: credits. Many reports use credits, and a busy research week can use them up. There's no free trial. Instead, Ahrefs Free gives limited audit and backlink data for sites you own.
Pick it if backlink research is your main job and the budget is there.
4. Moz Pro: familiar metrics, priced per site
Moz created Domain Authority, a score many SEOs and clients still use. Moz Pro covers keyword research, rank tracking, site crawls and link research.
Price: Standard is $99 a month ($79 billed yearly) for 1 user, 3 sites and 300 tracked keywords. There's also a $49 Starter plan for a single site. Extra seats are $49 a month. The page offers a free trial on the Medium plan.
3-person team: with 2 extra seats, 2 extra sites ($10 each) and 200 more keywords ($20), about $237 a month, or $2,844 a year. That's the highest bill in our test.
Watch out for: the add-ons. The base price looks low, but every extra seat, site and keyword block costs more. When we checked, the page also showed a limited-time discount banner, so prices may shift.
Pick it if your clients or your boss already report on Domain Authority.
5. Serpstat: keyword research on a budget
Serpstat is strong on keyword and competitor research for the price. It also includes rank tracking and site audits.
Price: Individual is $69 a month ($50 billed yearly) for 5 projects and 100 searches a day, with 1 user. For more than 1 user, you need Team at $129 a month ($100 billed yearly), which includes 3 users.
3-person team: $129 a month, or $1,548 a year.
Watch out for: the trial needs a card. Serpstat takes a $1 verification charge (refunded), and the plan renews after 7 days unless you cancel.
Pick it if keyword research is your main job and you want a lower price than SE Ranking.
6. Mangools: the easiest to learn
Mangools is a set of simple SEO tools, best known for KWFinder. It's built for beginners. You can learn it in an afternoon.
Price: Basic is $49 a month ($29.90 billed yearly) with 100 keyword lookups a day and 200 tracked keywords. Basic has 1 login and no extra seats. For a team, you need Premium at $69 a month ($44.90 billed yearly), which includes 3 seats and 700 tracked keywords.
3-person team: $69 a month on Premium, or $828 a year.
Watch out for: it isn't a full suite. There's no site audit tool, rankings update weekly (daily only on the Agency plan), and the tools are separate apps rather than one dashboard.
Free option: a free account with a few lookups a day, no card. Paid plans have a 48-hour money-back guarantee.
Pick it if you're new to SEO and mostly need to find keywords you can rank for.
7. Ubersuggest: the cheapest paid plan
Ubersuggest, from Neil Patel, is the low-cost option. It covers keyword research, a site audit, rank tracking and backlink data at a basic level.
Price: Individual is $29 a month ($16 billed yearly) for 1 project, 150 reports a day and 125 tracked keywords. There's also a $290 one-time lifetime deal. Extra projects, users and keywords are add-ons at $5 a month each.
3-person team: with 4 more projects and 2 more users, about $59 a month, or $708 a year.
Watch out for: rankings update weekly, not daily, and the data is less detailed than the bigger suites. Audits stop at 1,000 pages.
Pick it if you run 1 small site and every dollar counts.
Free Semrush Alternatives
If you're not ready to pay, you can still cover the basics for free:
- seotools.pro free tools. Website audit, Keyword Research, Organic Traffic Checker and Backlink Analyzer work on any site. 3 checks a day each, no sign-up.
- Google Search Console. Free, and it's Google's own data on the searches that bring people to your site. It only shows your own site.
- Semrush Free. 10 reports a day and 1 demo project, no card needed. Good for a quick look, not for daily work.
- Mangools free account. A few keyword lookups a day.
- Ahrefs Free. Limited audit and backlink data for sites you can verify.
Free tools work well for 1 site that's still fixing the basics. Once you look after several sites or need daily rankings, a paid plan saves time. We covered when to make that move in free vs paid SEO tools.
When You Should Stay With Semrush
An alternative isn't always the right call. Stay with Semrush if:
- You run Google Ads too. Semrush's PPC research is a big part of its value. None of the cheaper tools here match it.
- You use its market and social tools every week. Traffic analytics, social media scheduling and content marketing tools are hard to replace with one cheaper product.
- Your team is fully trained on it. Switching costs time. If Semrush saves you hours every week, keep it.
- You need the biggest databases. For large international sites, the size of the keyword and backlink data can matter.
As one Capterra reviewer, a digital marketing manager, said, the monthly fees are steep, but other tools "can also only do half or a third what Semrush does". That's fair. The question is whether you need the other half.
How to Switch Without Losing Data
Rank history is the one thing you can't get back. Plan the move so you don't lose it.
- List the reports you really use. Check your last 3 months. It's often a short list.
- Export before you cancel. Download rank tracking history, keyword lists and site audit results as CSV files.
- Connect Google Search Console. It keeps 16 months of your search data no matter which tool you use.
- Run both tools for 2 weeks. Start the trial of your new tool before your renewal date. Track the same keywords in both and compare.
- Count seats before you buy. Use the team setup in this guide: users, sites and keywords. Add every extra cost.
- Switch to yearly once you're sure. The tools here cut about 16% to 45% off for yearly billing.
The Verdict
Semrush is still one of the most complete marketing suites you can buy. But most small teams use a fraction of it and pay for every seat.
If your work is mostly SEO, the jobs that matter are audits, keywords, rank tracking and backlinks. For those, seotools.pro starts at $24 a month. Business, our plan for teams, is $1,188 a year for 100 projects, compared with $2,748 for a 3-person Semrush team.
Pick SE Ranking for heavy client reporting, Ahrefs for deep backlink work, and Mangools or Ubersuggest for simple keyword research on the tightest budget.
The easiest way to decide: run a free audit of your site today, and see what you'd get before you pay a cent.
